the atlantic was born today, and i´ll tell you how:
the clouds above opened up and let it out
i was standing on the surface of a perforeated sphere when the water filled every hole
and thousands upon thousands made an ocean making islands where no islands should go...

I reached Buenos Aires yesterday. I feel fine, and have overcome my recent saltiness. Thanks for your support. Things to do today: fix the tent (hopefully), call the airline, call the embassy, send postcards.

Tonight, the thunderstorm broke one of my tent poles. I feel gloomy, and seriously consider not expanding my tour. The recent days have been very demanding, with more than 150 km per day, and strong cross wind ( I HATE the wind.)

Quick note

I am in Mendoza. I am heading East, not South; I changed my plans and want to reach Buenos Aires and the Atlantic Ocean again.

Santiago is sticky

After two more days in town (don´t ask, don´t tell), I finally left Santiago the day before yesterday in the late afternoon. I got to Los Andes and camped there over night. The countryside in Middle Chile is lovely. Moreover, the late springtime brings out the best in it. I took a lot of pictures as I passed the Andes, but you could have guessed due to my fondness of mountains.

I saw the Cerro Aconcagua! It was an impressive view I repeat my promise to upload pictures "soon" everytime, but this time it won´t have to bee expected in the near future. My online time, if any, will more likely be burnt on applications and organizing stuff. Apparently, my passport and credit card have been found in the gutter of Antofagasta. Good news, but what shall I do now? I¨ll find out more by consulting the embassy (gosh, I would not have thought I would ever  write such a sentence.)

By the way, I am delighted to experience that the readership of my blog is bigger than I expected. Thanks to you if you dropped me an email and revealed yourself, thanks if you did not... your presence is being appreciated.

There is room for mistakes.

I am in Santiago, heading East in the eccentrically-shaped country of Chile.

Sorry for the long break. I have been to Valparaiso, a very charming town by the oceanside. And I had hopped on the bus before, to go there. I had internet access more or less all the time, but yet, I did not blog; for I have to tell you that among others, my camera got stolen at the bus terminal of Antofagasta. Annoying for all of us, save the thief.

I cannot provide pictures of Valparaiso, nor of the region of Antofagasta. I cannot show you the panorama seen on the summit of Sairecabur (whose heights, by the way is given as 5970 masl on some maps; Darn rise of the sea level! Fight global warming!).

Myself is as well as can be under this circumstances. I look forward to hitting the road again, crossing border and Andes to Mendoza, from where I intend to go South. I need a substitute for my camera, but I don't seem to be the coin upon Lady Lucks bonnet, in that respect. On the road, I am doing well.

Having said that, I am back. I"ll report by arriving in Mendoza.

That went remarkably well!

The ascent was not technically challenging, but the heights, the temperature and the wind could have spoiled the fun. They did not at all.

The view from the summit was stunning. The Sairecabur is the highest peak of the region, so the panorama is undisturbed. I saw the Salar de uyuni, and most of the Atacama Region.

I'll try to provide pictures from ascent & summit as soon as possible, but it won't be easy. Flickr already complains that I am running into their webspace limits, and usually, my time online is limited.
